Music Without Boundaries (The influence of Latin American songs in the United States Pop culture), is a program based on those songs that made it across borders , through decades and fashions to encounter international fame and glory but even more important their place in the collective unconscious, a sort of soundtrack to Latin American culture. Nevertheless, these great songs not only represent their geographical origins, they have become a standard of song writing achievements and a proof of the transcendental power of music.
As soon as English versions of these songs started to take their own flight new approaches to musical arrangements emerged too using jazz bands, quartets, trios, etc. A good example of this is the Garota de Ipanema better known as The girl from Ipanema recorded in many different countries with the most diverse ensembles. Or some later examples such as Rubén Blades Pedro Navajas: A Latin American homage to Mackie Messer a song by Bertolt Brecht and music by Kurt Weill made famous worldwide by the late American-Italian singers Frank Sinatra and Bobby Darin (Mack the Knife). The list goes on and on and with it, the opportunity to fulfill the need to learn from the past and link that knowledge to our present for the sake of creating a better future.
Taking this program to bilingual education schools with a high presence of Latin children, will not only expose the students to the great experience of live music performed by the best professional Latin American musicians available but will also plant the seed that may lead them to find the path to their own roots.
